Books and manuals

Books:

There’s no shortage of books covering Z cars—whether that’s good or bad depends on how much research you’re up for to find the right one for you! I’m sure this list isn’t final, but these are some books I’ve found online so far:

  • Datsun Z: From Fairlady to 280z – The complete history of the groundbreaking sportscars that opened up export markets of the Japanese–particularly America. Covered are all the Fairlady (Datsun 1600/2000 roadster) sportscars, through 240Z, 260Z and 280z. 1960-1978.
  • Datsun Z Series: The Complete Story – This is a complete history of the design and development of the Z car series up to the 300ZX of 1983. It covers full technical and production details for each model, road tests, racing and rallying and what to look for when buying and running any Z series car.

Special attention is devoted to the cult of Z-fans around the world who have supported Nissan’s sports car through thick and thin and the early car’s emergence as a rapidly appreciating collector car.

  • Vintage Velocity – delve into the timeless allure of classic car culture, spotlighting the iconic Datsun 240Z and other Z series cars, brought to life through vivid narratives, passion, and artistic flair.

Manuals:

The same goes for manuals—there are quite a few, so you’ll need to decide which one works best for you. I’ve used both the original and Haynes service manuals, but each has had limitations for certain tasks. At times, I’ve had to reach out to other owners on forums for help.
